Jan Kim is a team member in our Toronto office, and we had the pleasure of asking her a few questions about her experience and her team in a recent conversation.
Introducing Jan Kim: Director, Origination
Jan, tell us about your experience in the industry
My career spans over 9 years. I started as an associate at a Schedule I bank and then took on progressively more challenging roles at other financial institutions. Prior to joining MCAP, I worked on CMHC’s Rental Construction Financing Initiative (RCFI) where I structured and underwrote over $1 Billion of loans across Canada. I am a graduate from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and hold a Master of Business Administration from Queen’s University.

How do you tackle difficult or complicated deals?
MCAP is Canada’s largest mortgage finance company and our team have seen just about all the challenges you can on a deal. With our knowledge base when it comes to tackling a difficult deal, I like to take a look at what the end goal is then figure out the steps needed to get there. If challenges arise, we can effectively preempt the issues and put effective solutions in place in advance of working collaboratively with the client and their professional team. I feel it is crucial to manage the client’s expectations, so everyone is on the same page. This is why MCAP enjoys such a vast amount of repeat business.
