Meet the MCAP Commercial Mortgages Team: Jonathan Matthews

Jonathan Matthews is a Senior Director in our Vancouver office, and we had the pleasure of asking him a few questions about his experience and his team in a recent conversation.

Jonathan, tell us about your experience in the industry

I have over 15 years of experience in construction and commercial term real estate lending. Over the span of my career, I personally been involved in funding $9 billion of commercial mortgages, totalling over 900 transactions. Prior to joining MCAP in 2022, I held leadership positions in commercial origination, portfolio management and investment management. In addition to being a licensed mortgage broker, I hold a BCom from UBC, I am a certified expert in real estate valuation holding my AACI designation and I am a CFA charterholder.

How do you tackle difficult or complicated deals?

We have the ability to originate complicated deals, by zeroing in on the issues upfront and putting forward effective solutions. We want to mitigate concerns our clients and investors have early in the process, so that no one feels mislead. A key component to this is that we are not transactional based, meaning that we are not just looking to do the next deal, we are in this for the long haul and want to build strong, positive and consistent business relationships with repeat business.
