MCAP strongly believes in giving back to the communities we serve. We asked MCAP homeowners to share how they give back to their community in a meaningful or charitable way. This is the 3rd of three stories; click here to read the previous story.
MCAP Homeowners’ Story
My wife and I are volunteer foster parents for Peel Children’s Aid.
Over the last 8 years we have fostered over a dozen children and have adopted two. We specialize in newborns who are born to mothers unable to take care of them usually due to substance abuse or mental health.
We have helped many families in the most difficult of circumstances in order to recover their children and in other cases we have helped children transition to their adoptive family. Recently we took under our wing a tiny newborn that was abandoned at Brampton Civic Hospital.
On the day she was supposed to be released and come home with us, we were told she had developed a serious condition related to her mother’s drug abuse. She was transferred to Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). We spent the next three weeks going to the hospital daily to cuddle and hold this tiny angel, and fortunately, she made it through and is now at home with us.
This is one of the many heart wrenching stories we have been a part of. The contribution we constantly give to our community by opening our home and heart to these children at risk is immeasurable. We have received many recognitions, but our biggest reward is the hug and kisses we receive from our little ones, and the tearful “thank you” from parents who are reunited with their children after their situation improves.
