How MCAP and our Partners Teamed up to give Back in 2023

January 18, 2024

For some, 2023 was a challenging year. As the cost of living increased, so did the need for support and resources. At the same time, local and global communities were affected by natural disasters while foundations continued to work tirelessly to provide support. MCAP was there – like we are year after year – to support families and causes in communities across the country.

But we didn’t do it alone. In 2023, our employees, broker partners, and homeowners contributed in varied and meaningful ways to make a positive difference in the lives of others. From local community support to national programs, global emergency response, and targeted donations, we came together once again to help.

Here are some highlights of our 2023 impact.

Habitat for Humanity Canada

MCAP has been a proud supporter of Habitat for Humanity Canada for over 20 years, helping them carry out their mission of helping Canadians realize their goals of homeownership. In addition to our corporate support, our employees, broker partners, and homeowners all contributed to this mission in different and significant ways throughout 2023.

As part of our commitment to help Canadians achieve homeownership, MCAP supports Habitat for Humanity by providing mortgage services to new Habitat homeowners and covering the fees associated with these Habitat mortgages. In 2023, MCAP provided nearly $345 thousand of in-kind servicing of Habitat mortgages.

Through our employee payroll deduction initiative, MCAP employees donated over $28 thousand to support Habitat for Humanity Canada. To show our appreciation of our team’s generosity, MCAP matched every donation for a total contribution of over $57 thousand.

Through our Importance of Home program, MCAP brokers had the opportunity to support Habitat for Humanity with sponsorship opportunities matching their capacity and resources. Brokers could choose one of four different sponsorship tiers, enabling a range of support from brokers and/or brokerages from across Canada.

Last year, brokers donated a total of $15 thousand. MCAP matched the donation amount by contributing an equal amount to the program for a total of $30 thousand.

Our Key to Hope™ program offers MCAP mortgage holders the opportunity to add support to Habitat for Humanity Canada directly through their mortgage payment. By making a regular, pre-determined donation, MCAP homeowners can help provide a solid foundation for Canadians to live better, healthier lives.

This year, in addition to Key to Hope™, homeowners had the opportunity to make a one-time donation to Habitat for Humanity Canada through MCAP’s MyHome Sweepstakes September activity. During the month of September, MCAP homeowners donated over $5 thousand. MCAP happily matched and topped up all homeowners’ donations for a total of $12 thousand.

The Caring and Sharing Fund

The Caring and Sharing fund allows MCAP to support charities that are important and meaningful to MCAP employees. Designed to provide $20 thousand annually to registered charities, the fund is a vehicle for MCAP to support worthwhile causes that our employees are involved in and/or have a meaningful, personal connection with.

In 2023, we supported several charities including Alzheimer Society of Canada, Epilepsy Canada, Rainbow Railroad, Home Suite Hope, Cambridge Food Bank and Pathways to Education.

Local Community Support

MCAP employees are located across Canada – from Vancouver to Montreal. We are dedicated to investing in the communities in which we live and work and have been proud to support local initiatives for many years. In 2023, MCAP and MCAP employees supported such initiatives as:

  • Shinerama: Shinerama is Canada’s largest post-secondary fundraiser in support of Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
  • Ride for Heart: In 2023, #TeamMCAP completed 11,324 km, raising over $8 thousand. To support our community of MCAP employees, recognize the hard work of #TeamMCAP, and champion the life-saving research performed by the Heart & Stroke Foundation, MCAP donated additional funds for a total donation of $15 thousand.
  • Habitat for Humanity Canada’s Indigenous Housing Partnership: MCAP employees came together to host a golf tournament to raise funds in support of Habitat for Humanity Canada’s Indigenous Housing Partnership. This initiative aims to help create safe places to live and provide training to Indigenous families to help build and maintain homes in their communities. With this donation, we hope to help Indigenous families across Canada access homeownership.

Emergency Response – Canadian Red Cross Earthquake in Turkey and Syria Appeal

In response to the earthquake that devastated Turkey and Syria in February, MCAP employees stepped up and donated over $8 thousand to the Canadian Red Cross Earthquake in Turkey and Syria Appeal. MCAP was honoured to top up employee donations and together, we contributed over $17 thousand to aid those impacted by the earthquake.

MCAP is grateful for the hard work and contribution of our homeowners, brokers, employees, and other partners who came together in 2023 to support people, families, and communities in need. We thank everyone who helped bring our efforts to life and are eager to make an even greater impact in 2024.
