MCAP and their broker partners share a common purpose – to help Canadians achieve their homeownership goals. Partnering with Habitat for Humanity Canada enables MCAP and brokers to provide the opportunity for hard-working families to find a secure, stable home they can own.
Build Day: March 9, 2023 | Calgary, Alberta

On March 9th, MCAP and our broker partners at Mortgage Connection, participated in a Habitat Build Day in Calgary. We had the opportunity to connect with Robby Aurora, Managing Partner at Mortgage Connection, on his experience at the Build Day and why it was important for him and his team to take part.
“Providing the opportunity for affordable homeownership for hard-working, low-income families is something that resonates with our entire team at Mortgage Connection,” says Aurora. “As mortgage brokers we come across a variety of different client demographics and scenarios, and to be able to have our team come out and help work with Habitat for Humanity is truly special for us.”
Winter days in Calgary can be extremely cold and the Build Day was no different, making basic building functions difficult. But the build team pushed through the conditions. “It was a reminder for all of us there how grateful we should be to have the opportunity and fortune to be able to serve,” says Aurora. “A reminder of how many Canadians do not have the basic necessity of shelter.”
The Build Day, which is often an excellent team building opportunity, was especially powerful given the cold. “Throughout the day, memories were made,” says Lee-Ann McEllister, Associate Sales Director with MCAP. “It is true team bonding when it’s -45 degrees and we push through the coldness for a great cause.”
Aurora agrees that the ability to come together as a group to give back is always impactful, and this day of service was truly special. “Our team is undoubtedly a close group because of the time spent together on wonderful initiatives such as the Habitat Build Day.”
Giving back is one of our core values

Both MCAP and Mortgage Connection are active supporters of the communities in which they do business, which makes for a natural partnership. “We chose to participate in this initiative because it is who we are, and we love the alignment with our partners at MCAP because it is also who they are,” says Aurora. “We have such amazing partners at MCAP and the passion their leadership team shows towards this cause is so wonderful. By supporting housing for Canadians who are struggling socioeconomically, we can see why MCAP is a true leader in the Canadian Mortgage Finance space.”
Indeed, when people and businesses work together to support common initiatives, they can build stronger, more resilient communities that can thrive. “Every act of giving has the potential to make a real difference in the lives of others, and with causes such as Habitat Build Day, we can see first-hand the impact we can all make for these families,” adds Aurora.
For MCAP, the brokers they work with are highly valued partners who enhance the experience of homeownership for their clients, helping to facilitate the goals of so many Canadians. Their partnership in the Build Day is another representation of their important relationship. “By working with a broker who is actively engaged in the community and is committed to making a positive difference, we can contribute to the betterment of society,” says Corbin Raison, Business Development Manager at MCAP. “Working together for a common goal solidifies an already tight knit relationship – it was an unforgettable experience that bonded everyone much closer.”
On Build Day, the team took on mostly framing related functions, but all who participated recognized they were building more than a house – they were building team spirit, memories and the future home of a deserving Canadian. “Homeownership is so much more than a house,” says McEllister. “It is stability, safety, and a place to call home.”
Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to bring communities together to help families build strength, stability and independence through affordable homeownership. MCAP has been a proud supporter of the organization since 2000, helping to carry out this important mission. Thanks to their scale and network, MCAP and their partners are able to help create meaningful impact in the lives of Canadians facing housing crises and insecurities.
